Relationship therapy

Certain life events, such as an affair or the loss of a child, can put a relationship under considerable strain. In such cases, it will be necessary to work at a deeper level. The approach is similar to that of the impact sessions but we focus on other areas.

Aims that might refer to you

  • learn to make genuine listening responses (mirroring, validating, empathising);
  • look for a balance between the influence of the man and the woman in a relationship;
  • get strong reactions (fighting, fleeing, freezing, submitting) under control;
  • learn to talk about dreams, feelings, expectations and heart’s desires;
  • be aware of the typical male/female differences and preferences;
  • understand each other's language of love (love vs. desire);
  • learn to discuss and conquer sexual difficulties;
  • intensify the intimacy between man and woman;
  • learn to release yourself from the power struggle;
  • come to terms with a previous relationship;
  • learn to deal with the impact of an extramarital relationship;
  • deal with the influence of others (family members, one's ex) on your relationship;
  • learn to deal with the impact of having children or not;
  • together find a way to deal with past experiences that have affected your life;
  • become able to discuss secrets;
  • restore your sense of adventure;
  • learn to talk about differences in religious beliefs;
  • deal with having an abortion, losing a child;
  • come to terms with cultural differences.

Combination with individual coaching

The sessions for partners together may be combined with extra individual coaching. These individual sessions allow us to solve the difficulties (such as dealing with bereavement, moving on from a previous relationship) that are more suited to a personal approach.

Reactions

"Such a lot has changed in a short time. We have gained considerable insight into how men and women function: why we always mean well in relation to each other but why the message does not always come across in the right way. Months of therapy were not necessary; after just a couple of sessions we understood each other better and could begin to build up our relationship once more. Hans gives useful tips and because he knows so much about how our minds work he can deal with every question."
